Sonny Bill Williams did not train with the All Blacks on Tuesday due to illness.
The centre has recovered from a shoulder injury that sidelined him for three months and is hoping to play against the Springboks in Wellington on Saturday.
All Blacks assistant coach Ian Foster says Williams is still in contention to play, but losing valuable training days could count against him.
‘The good news is his scan’s all clear, so now we’ve just got to get him back on his feet and training,’ Foster said.
Meanwhile, centre Ryan Crotty, wing Rieko Ioane and flank Sam Cane all trained on Tuesday. Crotty and Cane have recovered from head knocks sustained during the first match against the Wallabies in Sydney and Ioane from a hamstring injury.
‘Obviously I definitely took a whack and I remember thinking at the time “jeez, I’m a bit dazed here”. And that night I was just a bit disappointed that I’d taken a whack, considering I’ve already had one this year,’ Cane said.
‘But I woke up the next morning feeling fine, took the next couple of days easy and literally didn’t feel anything. After a knock, you’re always analysing yourself a lot closer than you normally would, but I’ve been fine and got into some good training in the back half of that week, following the Auckland Test, and then got some real good in work last week.’
