Cheetahs wing Sergeal Petersen will be sidelined for between six and eight weeks after breaking his jaw against the Bulls.
Petersen left the field early in Saturday's pre-season game after colliding with a Bulls player.
In some good news for the Cheetahs, who lost 30-13 in Polokwane, scans showed that prop Maks van Dyk's neck injury, which saw him stretchered off the field, is not serious.
The Cheetahs' next pre-season match is against the Stormers at Newlands on Friday night and Springboks Willie le Roux and Oupa Mohoje are both expected to play.
