Search continues for missing Manyike

There is still no clarity around the whereabouts of missing former SA Schools captain Muzi Manyike. CRAIG LEWIS reports.

It recently came to light that the talented youngster and former junior Lions player had been reported as missing.

It’s believed that on 10 November, the Randfontein SAPS officially opened a missing person’s docket, with his family becoming concerned over a lack of contact.

Just over a week later, on 18 November, CCTV footage reportedly showed Manyike leaving a car in Pretoria North before disappearing.

On Tuesday, Manyike’s father, Douglas, told SARugbymag.co.za that there was still ‘nothing at the moment’ when asked whether there had been any developments in the case.

The family has hired a private investigator to assist in trying to get to the bottom of what happened to Manyike.

The 20-year-old utility back, who played most of his schoolboy rugby at centre, also represented South Africa’s U17 and U18 Sevens team, winning the Capricorn Sevens tournament in Windhoek in 2016.

Previously, Manyike represented the Golden Lions at U12, U13, U16 and U18 levels, captaining the U16 team in 2016. He was elected as head boy of Jeppe High in 2018, when he played for the Lions’ Craven Week squad for a second time and earned a place as vice-captain of SA Schools, leading the team against Wales.

His contract with the Lions concluded on 31 October, but an early release was granted at the player’s request.
