Rassie Erasmus is negotiating the release of the Blitzboks’ Super Rugby players for the Commonwealth Games in April.
The SA Rugby director of rugby has been touring the country to ensure that the sevens players who have Super Rugby contracts will be available for the Games.
Seabelo Senatla (Stormers), Kwagga Smith (Lions) and Tim Agaba (Bulls) will key to coach Neil Powell’s plans.
SA Rugby CEO Jurie Roux told Supersport.com he is confident the trio will be released for international duty.
‘As we stand, Rassie is the director of rugby and he has been negotiating those releases in the past week. I think he has been to every franchise in the last week and has discussed the release of those players,’ Roux said.
‘Hopefully he will get them released for the Commonwealth Games, which is pretty important for us, and then the World Cup. It probably carries a little more weight than the Sevens Series for this year.
‘Whenever there is a medal involved you would like to get to the medals and hopefully those players will be released. Essentially you are talking about Kwagga, Senatla and Tim – those are the guys on dual contracts. The rest shouldn’t be too big of a problem.’
