Sanzaar jumps in to help Argentina

Sanzaar has confirmed they are working with the Argentina Rugby Union in looking for solutions to give their players match preparation ahead of the Rugby Championship.

This comes after Sanzaar announced that there will be a revised Rugby Championship in one central location, most likely New Zealand, later this year.

But while New Zealand Rugby and Rugby Australia have launched their own domestic competitions (Super Rugby Aotearoa and Super Rugby AU, respectively) following the indefinite suspension of the regular Super Rugby campaign to generate financial income and keep players active in preparation for the international season, the UAR has been unable to do the same.

In a statement released on Thursday, Sanzaar confirmed that it is providing assistance to Argentina, who is struggling as a direct consequence of the Covid-19 epidemic.

‘Unfortunately, the pandemic has been particularly tough for our partners in Argentina as the size and length of the “lockdown” has meant they are not able to play in any further revised Super Rugby domestic competition this year,’ read the statement.

‘That said, Sanzaar is continuing to work with the Argentina Rugby Union [UAR] in looking for solutions to give their players some meaningful match preparation as we look ahead to the rest of 2020 with the Rugby Championship. Sanzaar is also assisting SA Rugby as it plans a return-to-play strategy in the weeks ahead.’
