Samoa thrashed Germany 66-15 in a dominant 10-try performance in their World Cup qualifier in Apia on Saturday.

Germany – who were only playing the match because Romania, Spain and Belgium had been disqualified for fielding ineligible players – were simply no match for the home side, who will now take a big lead going into the second leg.

A hat-trick from wing Ed Fidow, to go along with a brace from scrumhalf Melani Matavao, powered the Samoans, who took a 35-3 lead into half-time, with inside centre Raynor Parkinson kicking a penalty for Germany.

Samoa rang the changes early in the second half, with Germany crossing for two tries through Jaco Otto.

However, it was all the home side from then on, as Matavao completed his brace and Joe Tekori and Dwayne Polataivao grabbed late tries.
