Centre Dylan Sage insists the Vodacom Blue Bulls have what it takes to win the 2019 Currie Cup despite a rocky start to their campaign.

Coach Pote Human’s side had a wretched start to their campaign with twin defeats by Western Province (20-5) and the Free State Cheetahs (43-27) in the opening two rounds of the competition.

The Bulls claimed their first win in round three when they edged an inspired Pumas team 25-17 in Nelspruit. The result was enough to lift the Bulls off the bottom of the log and above their victims into sixth place.

And Sage believes it was just the kick-start the Bulls needed to get going.

‘We’ve lost a number of players but the group we have is very strong. Initially we didn’t play the way we wanted and that means we have to win all our remaining matches,’ he told Netwerk24.

‘Our set pieces weren’t good, and we created chances on attack, but we weren’t clinical enough. But we’ve improved in all these aspects. There’s no doubt that this team has the ability to win all its remaining matches.’

The Bulls’ three remaining games are against Griquas and the Sharks at Loftus, and a clash with the Golden Lions at Ellis Park in between those home fixtures.
