Published on September 28, 2020

SARugbymag.co.za looks back at the South African players who featured for their respective clubs in the semi-finals of the European Challenge Cup.

– The Leicester Tigers, with Jaco Taute and Hanro Liebenberg in their ranks, slumped to a 34-19 defeat by hosts Toulon in their last-four clash. Taute played outside centre and provided a try-assist, while teammate and compatriot Liebenberg started at the back of the scrum and made 24 run metres, 12 carries and five tackles.

– Bordeaux held hosts Bristol Bears to a 20-all scoreline after the full-time whistle in their thrilling semi-final contest to sent the game into extra time. But Bristol dominated the extra-time period, scoring two tries and converting a penalty to clinch a 37-20 win to book their place in the final. Lock Jandre Marais started for Bordeaux, but it was replacement hooker Joseph Dweba who starred for the visitors when he was introduced in the second half. Dweba made 13 running metres from 10 carries, made a turnover on the ground, beat two defenders and scored a try.
