SARugbymag.co.za looks back at the South African players who featured for their respective clubs in round three of the French Top 14 this weekend.
– Lock Peet Marais and flank Retief Marais were in the Brive side that beat Pau 19-13 in an ill-disciplined match which produced three red cards and a yellow. Prop Lourens Adriaanse was on Pau’s bench and came on as the replacement tighthead in the 57th minute.
– Stade Français, with lock Gerbrandt Grobler and scrumhalf James Hall in their ranks, slumped to an agonising 26-19 defeat by Bayonne at home. The match also produced two yellow cards and a red card.
– Clermont ran in four tries to clinch a convincing 31-12 victory over Agen. Lock Jeremy Jordaan started and scored the opening try for Agen, but his effort was in vain. Flank Jacobus van Tonder played for Clermont as a substitute.
– In-form wing Cheslin Kolbe scored one of five tries as Toulouse cruised to a 39-19 triumph over Toulon. Kolbe was joined in the Toulouse starting lineup by compatriot and fellow Springbok Rynhardt Elstadt, who played at flank.
