JON CARDINELLI picks a South African XV based on performances in round 14 of Super Rugby.
The Lions and Sharks dominate this week’s Form XV after scoring wins against the Brumbies and Chiefs respectively. One Stormer and one Bull have made the cut following the Cape side’s historic loss to the Sunwolves in Hong Kong and the Bulls’ heavy defeat in Argentina.
Lukhanyo Am was a force with ball in hand and at the breakdown for the Sharks. In terms of 10s, Rob du Preez and Elton Jantjies had their moments over the weekend. Am and Jantjies crack the nod here on the basis of their all-round contributions.
The Sharks scrum impressed, while the Lions continued to use their lineout maul as a brutally effective attacking weapon. It shouldn’t surprise to see the Sharks and Lions forwards dominating the pack.
Stormers wing Dillyn Leyds scored two tries and worked hard on defence in a losing cause in Hong Kong. Lwazi Mvovo did well when switching from wing to fullback late in the game at Kings Park, but Warrick Gelant offered more at No 15 for the Bulls in Buenos Aires.
