Rohan Janse van Rensburg was influential in Sale’s 18-14 win over Worcester, while Newcastle, Exeter, Gloucester, Wasps and Harlequins were all victorious in the English Premiership.
The Sale Sharks continued their upward trajectory with another splendid away win, this time over Gary Gold’s Worcester Warriors. Sale flyhalf AJ MacGinty finally returned from a long injury, releasing scrumhalf Faf de Klerk from the kicking duties.
But it was De Klerk’s former Lions and Springbok teammate, Janse van Rensburg, who starred for the visiting team.
The centre scored the opening try of the game as Sale led 11-8 at the break. The Warriors fought back in the second half to take a 14-11 lead before Sale crossed for a late try to snatch a thrilling victory.
In other results, the Newcastle Falcons shocked the Northampton Saints 24-22, the Exeter Chiefs pounded Bath 42-29, coach Johan Ackermann’s Gloucester beat London Irish 39-15 to record their fifth successive win, Nizaam Carr scored again as Wasps edged the Leicester Tigers 32-25 and Saracens slumped to a fifth consecutive defeat when they lost 20-19 to city rivals Harlequins.
