Gloucester are set to open court proceedings against the Sale Sharks over the irregular signing of Springbok centre Rohan Janse van Rensburg.
A Rugby Football Union disciplinary hearing in April revealed Van Rensburg had in October 2017 signed a three-year deal with Gloucester effective from 1 November 2018 until the end of 2021, but then joined Sale on loan. The South African then signed a three-year contract with Sale in January 2018 without informing Gloucester.
Following the conclusion of the disciplinary hearing, Van Rensburg was fined £32,500 coupled with a two-week ban and Sale were hit with a £20,000 fine and a five-point deduction, suspended for two years.
Van Rensburg’s agent Matthew Ginvert also received a fine of £3,750 and was directed to undertake the agent’s education programme.
But reports from England now suggest Gloucester are set to initiate court proceedings against Sale over the matter. It is believed Gloucester are seeking damages of around £400,000 in compensation for the transfer of Van Rensburg.
