Former Pumas lock Le Roux Roets has had his contract with the Waratahs terminated by mutual consent after struggling for game time this season.
The 24-year-old made the move to New South Wales after impressing for the Pumas in the 2018 season of the Currie Cup, starting all six matches and scoring two tries for the Mpumalanga-based franchise.
However, the move has not worked out for Roets, as he has yet to make his Vodacom Super Rugby debut. The Waratahs confirmed to the Sydney Morning Herald that his contract was mutually terminated, based on performance.
Adding further intrigue, however, is that Roets quit the club around the same time as Israel Folau’s younger brother, John, who baptised him in his time in Australia.
Both Roets and John Folau attended the same church in New South Wales where Israel Folau is a frequent visitor.
