Crusaders coach Scott Robertson has revealed why he didn’t do his customary breakdance celebration after his team’s Super Rugby Aotearoa title triumph.

The Crusaders beat the Highlanders 32-22 in Christchurch to be crowned Super Rugby Aotearoa champions with one round of fixtures remaining. Counting their previous three Super Rugby championships in 2017, 2018 and 2019, the Crusaders have now won four consecutive titles.

As tradition would have it, Robertson would have had his chargers form a circle around him to cheer as he breaks into dance. But unlike previous occasions, he opted against his unique celebration this time.

‘Everyone’s calling for me to dance, but I don’t think it’s the right time,’ Robertson said.

‘It doesn’t feel quite right. Just with what happened to tight-head prop Oli Jager and the circumstances. There will be another time for that.

‘It’s a celebration with curfews tonight. There will be curfews. That’s why we’re keeping it a little bit low key. Just think it’s appropriate with tonight, we’ll find another time to dance.’

Jager has been hospitalised and is said to be undergoing tests, after Highlanders centre Sio Tomkinson hit him off the ball with 15 minutes to play.

Jager fell to the ground and was out cold. He received on-field medical treatment for sometime before being stretchered off the park.
