The Stormers’ week has gone from bad to worse after it was reported that star flank Pieter-Steph du Toit underwent surgery for an injury on Sunday.
According to Rugby365, Du Toit suffered a thigh injury during the defeat by the Blues at Newlands on Saturday, the Stormers’ first loss of the 2020 Vodacom Super Rugby season.
The bruising on his thigh was bad enough that he underwent surgery on Sunday and the initial prognosis is that he could be out for the next two months.
It a massive blow for the Stormers, who have already lost captain Siya Kolisi and Springbok hooker Bongi Mbonambi to long-term injuries.
Losing the 2019 World Rugby Player of the Year is hardly ideal for John Dobson’s side, who are targeting at least a semi-final appearance to bid farewell to Newlands this year.
The Stormers have a bye this weekend, but next face the Sharks in what will be a crucial coastal derby in Durban.
