France wing Remy Grosso has slammed World Rugby’s decision not to ban All Blacks prop Ofa Tu’ungafasi for a dangerous tackle in the first Test in Auckland.
Grosso, who scored France’s only try in the game, which the All Blacks won 52-11, had to be taken to hospital after suffering a high shot from both Tu’ungafasi and flank Sam Cane. He was ruled out of the rest of the series with a double head fracture.
Referee Luke Pearce only awarded a penalty against Cane despite replays showing that Tu’ungafasi’s shoulder made contact with Grosso’s head. Tu’ungafasi was handed a warning after citing commissioner Freek Burger decided that the tackle was below the red-card level.

Grosso told Midi Olympique that he is struggling to understand how Cane and Tu’ungafasi escaped punishment for the tackle.
‘If we do the same thing, we French get punished,’ Grosso said. ‘If the referee whistles foul, Cane must at least take a yellow, and their [prop] a red.
‘He sees me coming, he sees that I am down and he still makes the gesture to move his shoulder,’ Grosso added.
France were also on the wrong end of an official’s call in the second Test, as fullback Benjamin Fall was red carded for taking Beauden Barrett out in the air.
