Relive RWC 2019 through the eyes of the Boks

The Springboks lift the World Cup Springboks
Published on April 23, 2020

Several Springboks, including Siya Kolisi and Jacques Nienaber, will give a different perspective of the World Cup final as they talk viewers through the game against England.

SuperSport has announced that its Freedom Day programming on SS1 will be dedicated to South Africa’s World Cup successes in 1995, 2007 and 2019.

Starting at 6:30am on Monday, 27 April, viewers will be treated to the 20th anniversary documentary of the 1995 World Cup win (produced in 2015), followed by the 2007 RWC final, highlights of the 2019 tournament, the Boks’ pool-stage matches last year and the final relived with insights from Kolisi, Nienaber and other players and staff who were involved in the 32-12 win over England.

After that, the channel will broadcast Glory Game: The Joost van der Westhuizen Story before concluding the day with Invictus – the Clint Eastwood film starring Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon that captured the remarkable Rugby World Cup-winning tale of 1995.

Nienaber, who has since replaced Rassie Erasmus as head coach, encouraged Bok supporters to tune in.

‘The Freedom Day RWC special on SuperSport will give the viewers an incredible opportunity to relive those memorable moments in Springbok history.

‘It is something not to be missed. Those three RWC final wins will demonstrate so powerfully what we as South Africans can achieve when we are #StrongerTogether.’

Broadcast details (all on SS1):

6:30am: 20th anniversary documentary of 1995 RWC win
8:30am: 2007 RWC win
10:30am: Highlights of RWC 2019
