Rebels No 8 Amanaki Mafi is in police custody and set to face charges after allegedly assaulting teammate Lopeti Timani.
The alleged assault occurred on a night out following the Rebels’ loss to the Highlanders on Saturday, which denied them a place in the Super Rugby playoffs.
Rugby Australia and the Rebels said in a statement that they were aware of an altercation between the players and confirmed Mafi will remain in custody on Sunday night.
