Racing pipped Stade Français 17-16, while there were also victories for Castres, Lyon, Bordeaux, Pau, Montpellier and Clermont in the French Top 14.
In an intense, but exciting Parisian derby, Racing 92 did just about enough to overcome their hosts and bitter city rivals Stade. The result takes Racing up to third on the log, while Stade drop from top spot to second position.
After conceding an early penalty, Heyneke Meyer’s Stade replied with 10 unanswered points to take a 10-3 lead. But Finn Russell knocked over another penalty before teammate Virimi Vakatawa scored on the stroke of half-time to give Racing a one-point advantage.
Stade’s Morné Steyn and Russell traded penalties twice as the visitors held onto their slender lead. Steyn was then replaced by Jules Plisson and it proved a costly error. With nine minutes remaining, Plisson skewed a reasonably easy penalty attempt which could have turned the game in Stade’s favour.
