Pulu to miss start of Super Rugby

Augustine Pulu will be unavailable for the first eight to 10 weeks of the Chiefs' Super Rugby campaign due to a broken arm.

Pulu, who has been playing for the New Zealand Sevens side, picked up the injury in their semi-final against Fiji on Sunday.

'It's incredibly disappointing for him. He's obviously been part of a sevens campaign, gone really well, made a really big contribution, and was keen to get into some Super footy, and then obviously head back towards Rio,' coach David Rennie said.

Fortunately for the Chiefs there is depth in the halfback position, with both Tawera Kerr-Barlow and Brad Weber available for selection.

Further injuries to the team include prop Nepo Laulala (out for the season) and lock Dominic Bird (10 weeks).

Pulu will also miss the Las Vegas and Vancouver legs of the World Rugby Sevens Series.
