French referee Romain Poite will take charge of Saturday’s Test between Scotland and South Africa in Edinburgh.
Poite is still well-known by Bok fans for his controversial call to send Bismarck du Plessis to the sin bin for what appeared to be a perfectly legitimate tackle on All Blacks flyhalf Dan Carter back in 2013.
Poite will be assisted this Saturday by New Zealand’s Ben O’Keeffe and Ireland’s Franck Murphy, while Ben Skeen will serve as the TMO.
In the Boks’ opening end-of-year Test against England, referee Angus Gardner came in for plenty of criticism for a controversial last-minute decision that prevented South Africa from having a potentially match-winning penalty.
However, Welshman Nigel Owens refereed last Saturday’s clash against France, and was mostly praised for his performance.
