Paper Talk: Bulls’ player movements set to continue

Jan-Hendrik Wessels Jan-Hendrik Wessels has been linked to the Bulls
Published on May 10, 2020

A round up of what some of South Africa’s leading Sunday papers are saying, including reports of the Vodacom Bulls bringing in some promising talent.

Sunday newspaper Rapport has a couple of stories linking the Bulls to new signings. According to the newspaper, the Bulls have managed to secure the signing of young prop Jan-Hendrik Wessels. The 1,9m, 120kg player will return to South Africa after six months with French Top 14 club Clermont. The report by Hendrik Cronje goes on to say that Bulls director of rugby Jake White could throw Wessels into the deep end and include the loosehead in his plans for next year’s Vodacom Super Rugby season.

In further transfer news, the Bulls could be set to bring in two new locks. Rapport have linked the Pretoria-based franchise to the signings of Cheetahs second-row pair Walt Steenkamp and Sintu Manjezi. The duo have been key to the Cheetahs’ push for a place in the Pro14 playoffs before the season was called off. According to Cronje, Steenkamp has turned down a number of overseas offers in the hope that White can help him fulfill his potential and become a Springbok.

It is not all bad news for the Cheetahs as it appears that they could sign 25-year-old Bulls loose-forward Jeandre Rudolph.  According to Rapport, he could link up with the Cheetahs by the end of October.
