Saturday’s match between the Springboks and England will reportedly be the last Test to be played at Newlands.
According to Rapport newspaper, the almost bankrupt Western Province Rugby Football Union is set to sell the iconic stadium and move to Cape Town Stadium in Green Point.
Negotiations between the WPRFU and the City of Cape Town about the union’s lease contract of the stadium are believed to be in the final stages.

This comes after Remgro Sport Investment announced it plans to seize property belonging to the WPRFU if the union does not pay back a loan in access of R44-million by 6 July.
WP Rugby’s business arm was placed in final liquidation by the Western Cape High court in 2016 after the union was slapped with an R276-million lawsuit by Aerios for reneging on an advertising rights contract with the company.
Aerios has confirmed its plans to challenge the union’s liquidation in court while it plans to proceed with suing the WPRFU for breach of contract.
