Three foreign-based forwards – Jasper Wiese, Joseph Dweba and Nicolaas Janse van Rensburg – have been linked with the Springbok alignment camps in preparation for the British & Irish Lions series.
Nienaber, his assistants and the rest of the management staff met with a number of players in Johannesburg (Lions and Vodacom Bulls), Durban (Sharks), Cape Town (Stormers) and Bloemfontein (Cheetahs) during a series of camps earlier this month.
At the completion of the local camps, the Bok coaching staff then held virtual sessions with players based in Ireland and Japan before also linking up with the players based in England and France this past week.
According to Netwerk24, Janse van Rensburg, Dweba and Wiese will be involved in the alignment camps in the weeks leading up to the squad announcement for the Lions series.
Playing for the Leicester Tigers in England, Wiese has been one of the best and most consistent loose forwards in recent months.
Dweba, who played alongside Wiese for the Cheetahs, now plies his trade in the French Top 14 for Bordeaux; while the 26-year-old Janse van Rensburg turns out for Montpellier in the same league.
The odds on Janse van Rensburg’s potential Bok involvement also increased following news of an injury to incumbent Springbok lock Lood de Jager.
