Retired Springbok wings Akona and Odwa Ndungane have brought relief to their home village in the Eastern Cape with groceries for local families.
DispatchLive reported that the twin brothers intervened after hearing that some of the families in Gxulu were going to bed hungry during the nationwide lockdown.
Through the Ndungane Twins Foundation and with assistance from HollywoodBets, they were able to deliver the groceries this week.
‘We decided to share what we have with those who are more needy and vulnerable than us,’ Odwa Ndungane – who chairs the foundation – said. ‘We wondered how they were coping with this situation, where it is difficult to find even odd jobs.
‘We are proud of this community and we always cry with them when things are bad and laugh and rejoice with them when things are good. They are part of our extended family.’
The food was distributed to the various families by the brothers’ mother – Sheila – on Monday.
These men and women (of the village) are fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters to my twins,’ she said. ‘They know that some residents need help more than others and the Covid-19 lockdown has made the situation worse.’
