Waylon Murray has been given a one-year deal with the Sharks after impressing during pre-season training.

Murray, a product of Westville Boys' High in Durban, will return to the union where he spent six years, after making his debut as a 19-year-old in 2005.

Now 28, Murray has spent the last few seasons in search of regular game time, turning out for the Kings, Lions and Bulls in Vodacom Super Rugby.

Out of contract following his release from the Bulls, Murray has impressed the Sharks coaching team with his determination, effort and drive in a strenuous pre-season period, and will provide them with some added depth in the centres while Paul Jordaan recovers from an injury that will see him miss the start of the season.

'It's fantastic to have Waylon back considering he arrived at our doorstep asking us if it was OK just to train with us, and after two months, it was plain to see his hunger to be an even better player than he was previously in the black and white,' said CEO John Smit.

'Offering him a one-year contract has been a privilege after witnessing his determination this pre-season and we can’t wait for him to get out there and enjoy himself in a Sharks jersey again.

Samoan wing Paul Perez, who spent two weeks with the squad in December, has returned to Durban on a three-month trial.
