Utility back Mils Muliaina will miss the rest of the Chiefs' Super Rugby campaign due to injury.
According to New Zealand's Newstalk ZB the former All Black succumbed to an elbow injury aggravated in the Chiefs' round two match against the Crusaders in February.
Muliaina has struggled with the injury since returning from Japan where he played for two seasons. The 33-year-old has had limited game-time after re-signing with the Chiefs on a one-year contract.
Muliaina was hoping to delay an operation on the elbow until the end of the seaon, but will now undergo surgery next Thursday.
He played on the wing in the Chiefs' 22-16 victory over the Rebels in Hamilton last weekend but has been withdrawn from the squad immediately, and replaced by Asaeli Tikoirotuma for Saturday's clash with the Crusaders in Hamilton.
