The Sharks have confirmed that Dick Muir will be joining the coaching team as an attack and backline consultant for the 2018 season.
Muir served as Springbok assistant coach from 2008 to 2011, while he coached the Sharks to the 2007 Super Rugby final, and will now make a return to Kings Park to work alongside head coach Robert du Preez.
‘I am very excited to once again be involved with the Sharks as a consultant, and I look forward to helping them achieve their vision,’ Muir commented. ‘Together with [CEO] Gary [Teichmann] and Robert and the rest of the management team, our plan is to bring the team back to where they once were.
‘Rugby coaching is a passion for me and despite having taken a break from full-time coaching, I always been involved at some level of the structures.
‘My role in the Investec International Rugby Academy and with Northwood School has kept me in touch with what is happening in the game, and has fueled my passion to be a part of shaping the future of the Sharks.’
The Sharks also confirmed that Muir’s return would coincide with other changes to their coaching group that will see Sean Everitt take up a role with the U19s, while Ryan Strudwick will be ‘pursuing other opportunities’.
