The new Springbok jersey, launched on Thursday, has a gold collar and prominent gold sleeves.
The main aim in the design was to reduce weight without compromising on strength. The jersey for the 2015 World Cup will therefore be 70g lighter than any previous jersey, to help reduce fatigue.
Using two materials, it was created with high tensile strength and a smooth surface making it harder to keep hold of in the tackle, while the mechanical weave is designed to stretch, allowing players to bind to each other.
Another area which was developed, after player insight, is the Super-Grip silicone which features on the chest of the jersey. The grip is graduated down the ribcage instead of being high on the chest, because it keeps down weight while also ensuring critical areas used for protecting the ball when running and catching.
Asics also introduced graduated compression socks into the Boks' apparel, featuring a moisture wicking yarn for better comfort and nano-glide technology in the heel to stop blisters. With insight from players, the socks have also been improved with a cotton footbed that improves the traction of the foot on the boot to improve blood flow and alleviate fatigue.
