The Rugby Football Union has confirmed that John Mitchell will be England’s head coach for the game against Scotland A in Leicester on Sunday.

Mitchell is the Test team’s defence coach, but has been tasked with leading the England A team in their non-Test against Scotland A at Welford Road stadium.

Commenting on Mitchell’s appointment, national coach Eddie Jones said: “Mitch is very good with young players and will pass on his knowledge and experience to this group.

“The team selection will be a collaborative decision and Mitch will be in charge on match day.”

On his part, Mitchell said: “It’s exciting for us to be working with this new group of players and seeing them grow day by day.”
