Either Victor Matfield or Deon Davids will be appointed as the new Bulls head coach.
Whoever gets the Super Rugby job will work under the guidance of SA Rugby director of rugby Rassie Erasmus.
The Bulls were turned away by Gloucester and Munster after approaching the clubs for permission to speak to Johan Ackermann and Johann van Graan respectively. Pumas coach Jimmy Stonehouse also pulled out of the running, while Blue Bulls coach Pote Human and Western Province coach John Dobson were considered.
According to Rapport newspaper, Matfield has a base of support in Pretoria and would bring in close friend and former Bulls and Springbok scrumhalf Fourie du Preez as an assistant.
Davids, meanwhile, is highly regarded by Erasmus and his hard work in getting the Kings to compete in the Pro14 has not gone unnoticed.
