Frans Malherbe says he turned down an offer from Toulon to stay at the Stormers.
The prop has played 54 Super Rugby matches for the Stormers and 34 for Western Province in the Currie Cup. He made his Springbok debut in 2013 and has earned 12 Test caps.
Malherbe, who has been named co-captain of the Stormers for 2016, said the decision was easy for him having wanted to play for his province since a young age. He is also determined to play for the Boks again.
‘I was born in this union, grew up here and have supported Western Province and the Stormers since I started watching rugby,’ Malherbe told Die Burger. ‘Not many players have the privilege to play for the team they supported from a young age.
‘I told someone the other day that you are never certain of your place in the Bok squad. For that honour to be bestowed upon you, you have to play well in Super Rugby. It’s still uncertain whether South Africans playing overseas will be picked for the Boks. What that essentially means, is that I want to be here and play as many Tests as possible for the Boks.'
