The SA Rugby magazine team rounds up some of the interesting snippets of news making headlines around the world.

All Blacks wing set to miss World Cup

All Blacks and Hurricanes back Nehe Milner-Skudder has had his hopes of making the 2019 World Cup squad dashed after suffering another injury setback.

The 28-year-old will undergo another operation on his shoulder issue, which has prohibited him from taking part in any action in this year’s Vodacom Super Rugby tournament.

As he is set to join French club Toulon next year, it is likely he has played his final game for club and country.

Halfway through what’s been a challenging year. There was plenty to work towards and look forward too on the Rugby to-do list but unfortunately due to ongoing issues with my shoulder from a prior surgery not going as well we’d hoped, it was the best decision to go under the knife again to get it sorted. I’ve been through “a few” injuries but this has easily been the toughest one – both physically and mentally. However, I’m not ready to give up anytime soon, love a good challenge and have so much love and support around me #Grateful ? Obviously I’m guttered at how the start of the year has panned out but as the great MLK once said, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” ✊ Much love to you all ❤️

Gatland to retain B&I Lions job

Warren Gatland will be announced as the British and Irish Lions coach for their 2021 tour to South Africa. Gatland, who coached the team during their tours to Australia and New Zealand, is set to retain the job.

This is despite the fact that he was left frustrated by the lack of preparation for the Lions’ drawn series against New Zealand.

An official confirmation is set to be made on Wednesday.

Mixed injury news for Vodacom Bulls

There were both boosts and setbacks for the Bulls in their latest injury update on Monday.

The trio of Jesse Kriel, Warrick Gelant and Rosko Specman are all set to return to action after recovering from their respective injuries.

However, there are question marks over the fitness of Schalk Brits and Marco van Staden, who are both undergoing concussion tests following their draw against the Highlanders.

The Bulls face the Lions in a crucial Super Rugby derby in Pretoria on Saturday which could determine both teams’ playoff fates.
