Lood cops one-week ban

Lood de Jager has been banned for one game after charging into a ruck during the Springboks' 57-15 loss against the All Blacks in Durban.

The suspension means De Jager will miss South Africa's match against the Barbarians at Twickenham on 5 November, but he will be available for selection for the Boks' Test against England a week later.

The incident occurred in the 72nd minute of the Test at Kings Park on Saturday. De Jager was yellow-carded at the time, but cited after the game and later found to have contravened Law 10.4 (h): A player must not charge into a ruck or maul.

'I accepted the player’s admission that he had committed an act of foul play contrary to law 10.4(h). I deemed the act of foul play merited a low-end entry point of two weeks. However, taking into account mitigating factors including the player’s early plea and his excellent disciplinary record I reduced the suspension to a period of one week,' said judicial officer Adam Casselden.

'The player accepted my indication of sanction of one week, and is therefore suspended from all forms of rugby up to and including 5 November 2016 when he is next scheduled to play.  The player is free to resume playing from 6 November 2016.'
