Lions utility back Gianni Lombard is set to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a serious knee injury against the Chiefs a fortnight ago.
Lombard, who started at flyhalf against the Chiefs, ruptured both his ACL and MCL knee ligaments during the game in Hamilton, and the Lions have now confirmed he will be out of action for nine months.
Meanwhile, the Lions are sweating over the fitness of captain Warren Whiteley, Sylvian Mahuza and Cyle Brink. Whiteley was a late withdrawal before kick-off in their match against the Crusaders, while Mahuza and Brink were injured in that game. The trio’s results will hopefully be confirmed on Tuesday.
The Lions have a bye this week.
