Lions veterans make timely return

Several key players have returned to fitness in time to be in contention for Lions selection to play the British & Irish Lions on Saturday.

The Lions announced that Burger Odendaal, Sti Sithole, MJ Pelser, Jannie du Plessis and Jaco Krielwill are all in the selection mix after regaining full fitness after their respective injury layoffs.

Jaco Visagie is available following his successful return in the Lions’ thrilling Currie Cup win over the Western Province last week.

Flyhalf Jordan Hendrikse, who has been away on Junior Boks duty for the past fortnight, is back to vie for the No 10 jersey against Fred Zeilinga.

Scrumhalf Andre Warner is still recovering from his cheek-bone fracture and has not been named in the squad, while backs Elton Jantjies and Wandisile Simelane are away with the Springboks. Stean Pienaar and Willem Alberts have both been ruled out for the rest of the Currie Cup season.

It is not yet clear if the game will go ahead due to the inter-provincial travel ban on Gauteng.
