The British & Irish Lions will face an anxious wait on the status of George North after the Wales back suffered a leg injury in action for the Ospreys.
North was playing in the Ospreys’ PRO14 Rainbow Cup opener against the Cardiff Blues on Saturday afternoon.
He suffered the injury in the second half of the match. It appeared as though he got his leg stuck in the turf of the Liberty Stadium and he was clearly in pain as he was helped into the change room.
North played a vital role in Wales’ successful 2021 Six Nations campaign, featuring for Wayne Pivac’s side at centre. He also played at wing for his provincial team.
This versatility, along with his excellent form of late, was seen as key in North bidding for a place in the Lions squad for their upcoming tour of South Africa in July.
Lions coach Warren Gatland will name his streamlined 36-man squad to face the Springboks on 6 May.
