Outgoing Wales coach Warren Gatland is expected to be kept on as the British & Irish Lions coach for their tour to South Africa in 2021.
According to the Telegraph, a verbal agreement has been reached between Gatland and the Lions, which will see him take charge of the invitational side for a record third successive time.
An announcement is expected to be made by mid-June in order to ensure that it does not disrupt Wales’ pre-World Cup preparations.
While Gatland was left frustrated by the tour schedule in New Zealand in 2017, it is hoped that getting a deal done two years before the South African tour will give him far more time to prepare.
Gatland first coached the team in their 2013 tour to Australia, where they claimed a 2-1 series win over the Wallabies, before coaching the side to a 1-1 series draw with the All Blacks in 2017.
