Out-of-contract Cheetahs wing Sibahle Rabz Maxwane is poised to join the Lions on a two-year deal.
The 24-year-old Maxwane joined the Cheetahs in 2017 and was the standout performer in the 2018-19 PRO14 campaign when he scored 14 tries to equal former Scotland wing Tim Visser’s record in the competition.
But Maxwane has since fallen out of favour with the coach and selectors in Bloemfontein and has not played much over the last 12 months.
His contract with the Free State Rugby Union expired earlier this week as he was not offered a new deal to extend his stay in Bloemfontein.
The Lions have now swooped in to land Maxwane’s services on a two-year deal until the end of the 2022 season.
