Lions loose forward Kwagga Smith will miss the rest of the Vodacom Super Rugby campaign after suffering a hamstring injury in the loss against the Hurricanes on Saturday.
Smith was forced off after pulling up while making a linebreak in the first half of the match – which the Hurricanes went on to win 37-17.
After undergoing scans on Monday, it was revealed that he had suffered a grade two hamstring injury that will likely prevent any further involvement in the Lions’ campaign.
The Lions will also be without experienced lock Stephan Lewies (knee), who was a late withdrawal from the team after picking up an injury in training, for their next match against the Vodacom Bulls in Pretoria. The 27-year-old has undergone scans and will be re-assessed next week.
Loosehead prop Sti Sithole (hamstring) also picked up a knock in training and will also miss the game against the Bulls, but is expected to be fit next week.
