JP Ferreira has not been included in the Lions’ coaching team for the 2018 season.
The Lions announced their coaching structure for next year and as expected Swys de Bruin has been confirmed as Johan Ackermann’s replacement as head coach of the Super Rugby side.
De Bruin will be assisted by Phillip Lemmer, who has been named as defence coach, and Joey Mongalo, who will serve as breakdown and backline coach.
Ferreira, who is contracted to the Lions until October 2018, was the glaring omission from the list of coaches. It is believed he has been granted an early release from his contract to join Munster.
Former Bulls and Bok lock Victor Matfield has also been relieved of his duties as forwards coach of the Currie Cup team, but will be used on a consultancy basis.
