Cyle Brink has reached an agreement with the Lions to release him from his contract in order to reportedly join the Leicester Tigers.
The Lions confirmed on Tuesday that Brink had requested a release from his contract. This comes after rumours that the player was looking to join the Tigers ahead of next season.
Rapport broke the news on the weekend that Brink was waiting for the Lions’ approval before finalising his move to Leicester.
Lions chief executive Rudolf Straeuli was reportedly in conversation with SA Rugby director of rugby Rassie Erasmus over whether Brink was still in the picture for Springbok selection before giving the flank the go-ahead.
Brink will be released with immediate effect, despite his contract coming to an end in October this year.
The 26-year-old has struggled with injury over the last two years after he was called up to a Springbok training squad for the 2018 Rugby Championship.
His latest injury – an achilles tendon injury he picked up in the SuperHero Sunday friendlies – ruled him out of the rest of the 2020 Vodacom Super Rugby season.
