It’s been confirmed that talented 22-year-old Manie Libbok will be making the move from the Vodacom Bulls to the Sharks. CRAIG LEWIS reports.

In a move that has been rumoured for some time, SARugbymag.co.za has received confirmation that the deal is done and Libbok will be joining the Durban-based franchise.

It will be seen as an important career move for Libbok, who has yet to fully flourish at senior level despite boasting undeniably immense potential, as was showcased in some star performances for the Junior Boks.

The youngster, who has perhaps fallen victim to the ‘utility back’ tag, has yet to settle in one position at senior level, while earlier this season veteran Morne Steyn was primarily backed to start ahead of him at flyhalf.

Libbok’s move to the Sharks will be seen as a fresh start for him, where he will add further depth at both fullback and flyhalf.

At the start of the 2020 Vodacom Super Rugby season, Curwin Bosch and Aphelele Fassi both fired with extended game time as the Sharks’ incumbent Nos 10 and 15, respectively, but both could be called up to the Springbok squad if international action is able to go ahead this year.

Beyond adding competition and providing further backup, Libbok could have had an extended role to play for the Sharks during the Currie Cup.
