Bernard Lapasset will not seek re-election as World Rugby chairman.

The Frenchman, who has had two terms as chairman, will focus on his role in Paris's bid to host the 2024 Olympics.

Lapasset oversaw the complete rebranding of World Rugby, sevens' inclusion in the Olympics, and record-breaking World Cups.

'I feel that this is the right time for‎ me to complete my current term and pass on the ball to one of my superb colleagues,' he said. 'I am proud of my time at the helm of World Rugby and excited by what lies ahead for our sport, including the debut of Sevens at Rio 2016.'

Member unions must now submit nominations for the position of World Rugby Chairman by 12 March, and the election will take place at the annual meeting of Council in Dublin in May.
