A flawless performance from Pat Lambie guided Racing 92 to a 40-29 victory over Toulon, while there were also wins for Clermont, Bordeaux, Pau, Castres, Montpellier and Stade Français in the Top 14.
Before this round, Racing were below Toulon in the competition standings. But they stunned their fierce rivals at the Stade Felix Mayol to clinch a crucial away win. This was the only match in round 10 that saw the home team fail to win, and also the only game in which there were no cards produced.
Both sides scored four tries, with veteran wing JP Pietersen bagging a brace for Toulon. But it was his former Springbok and Sharks teammate – Lambie – who determined the outcome of the match.
In his first start at flyhalf for his new club, Lambie produced a perfect kicking display, slotting four conversions and four penalties for a 20-point haul. He also managed to play a full 80 minutes for the first time since his initial injury head injury in 2016.
In other results, Clermont stunned the in-form Lyon 39-18 in a match which produced four yellow cards and a red. In another ill-disciplined game in which there were two red and five yellow cards, Pau beat Brive 34-15 at home.
Despite conceding a red card as well, Bordeaux defeated Agen 33-23 at home. Castres recorded a 31-15 victory against La Rochelle in a clash where four yellow cards were handed out.
Elsewhere, Jan Serfontein scored his first try for Montpellier in their 32-22 bonus-point win against Toulouse, who conceded two yellow cards in the second half. In the only other match, Stade Français edged Oyonnax 39-35 in Paris.
