Kings snap up Mjekevu

Winger Wandile Mjekevu has joined the Kings on loan from the Sharks for the rest of the Super Rugby season.

Kings COO Charl Crous confirmed Mjekevu’s release from the Sharks to assist the Port Elizabeth-based team, battling with injuries to several key backline players including Luzuku Vulindlu, Elgar Watts, Malcolm Jaer, Siyanda Grey, Charles Radebe and Stefan Watermeyer.

‘We have negotiated with the Sharks to loan Mjekevu for the remainder of the season and have followed all the necessary requirements to record the changes with Sanzaar,’ said Crous.

The 25-year-old made his Super Rugby debut for the Lions against the Stormers in 2010 before he joined the Sharks in 2012. In 2013, he joined French club Perpignan, but returned to Durban ahead of the 2015 Currie Cup season on a two-year deal.

Mjekevu, who can also play centre, is already training with the Kings squad and will be available for selection against the Jaguares on Friday.
