Kings coach Deon Davids says he has not spoken at all to SA Rugby director of rugby Rassie Erasmus.
Davids was reportedly in line to replace Allister Coetzee as Springbok coach despite his Kings team having yet to win a match in this season’s Pro14.
It now looks as if Erasmus himself will coach the team, with Jacques Nienaber, Pieter de Villiers and Mzwandile Stick as his assistants.
‘I have not been in contact with him at all. I can say that categorically,’ Davids told SARugbymag.co.za when asked about the possibility of joining Erasmus’ team. ‘My only focus up to now has been doing my work here [at the Kings].’
The injury-plagued Kings will take on the Cheetahs for the second time in two weeks, in Bloemfontein on Saturday.
‘Rugby is a game of continuity and combinations,’ said Davids. ‘When you lose your front row and your flyhalf, then it becomes difficult as it upsets your momentum a bit.’
Davids confirmed that flyhalf Kurt Coleman is back in training and will be assessed ahead of the match.
