Junior Springbok coach Chean Roux believes his team has to improve before their crucial pool game against New Zealand at the U20 Championship in Argentina.

The South African side secured bonus-point wins in their previous two encounters against Scotland and Georgia respectively. But Roux is not satisfied with his team’s performances to date and has lamented the high error-count and the lack of discipline, particularly in the game against Georgia in Rosario on Saturday.

‘There were opportunities, but we made too many unforced errors. I don’t know why it happened, but it seemed as though we could not catch the ball in the first half,’ said Roux.

‘Our discipline was also not good enough. Playing with 14 men for 20 minutes will always make things tougher, so we need to rectify that. We at least got the bonus point, so we have 10 points from the competition. The positive for us is that we are still in the tournament and our fate is in our hands.’

Roux has called on his charges to sharpen up and produce an improved performance against the New Zealanders in their last pool game.

‘The one thing we will take from the match against Georgia, is that we have to be ready mentally for New Zealand. We need to have our plans ready and be sharp for the next game.’
