Hooker Daniel Jooste and wing Sihle Njezula each scored a brace as the Junior Springboks beat Scotland 41-3 in Edinburgh on Friday.
It was the SA U20s’ third win in a row following victories against Georgia in two friendlies in Stellenbosch last month.
Jooste went over for his first try from a lineout drive, with Njezula then receiving the ball out wide and sprinting clear to the line.
Scotland worked their way into the Junior Boks’ half on several occasions, but some solid defending shut them out. This resulted in the team opting for a penalty goal from flyhalf Cullum McLelland, which proved to be their only points of the match.
Jooste grabbed his second, again from the back of a strong maul, just before half-time to give the Junior Boks a 17-3 lead.
The second half belonged to the visitors.
Njezula added his second early on, before wing Tyrone Green also got in on the action to push his side to a 29-3 lead.
With the momentum on their side and the Junior Boks scrum dominating, prop Asenathi Ntlabakanye powered his way over the tryline from a pick-and-go.
The Junior Boks continued their dominance in the scrum and earned a late penalty try for their efforts.
‘We have been working on our collisions and on being physical, and we dominated in those aspects of the game,’ said Junior Boks coach Chean Roux. ‘For the guys to play so well in the cold and windy conditions only a few days after arriving in Scotland is a pleasing result.
‘I thought it went really well in the scrums, and I think we only lost one or two lineouts, so overall it was a great start to the tour.’
The team will face Wales in Cardiff on Tuesday, before meeting England in London next Friday.
