Juan Smith says the Springboks’ major problem lies with a backline that looks like that of a schoolboys team.
The Boks only managed to score a measly eight tries during the course of the Rugby Championship, while they failed to cross the tryline in their final two fixtures at home.
Smith, who earned 70 Test caps for the national side, raised concerns over the fact that there appeared to be a lack of a clear game plan.
‘To be honest, our set pieces were not bad this year. The big problem is our backline. Our backline looks like a school team's backline,' he told Netwerk24.
'They don't run good lines and nobody breaks the line. Our backs don't keep opposition defenders guessing. It just looks as if there is no plan in place.’
Smith intimated that there was also a lack of balance to the Bok loose trio, which included Francois Louw, Oupa Mohoje and Warren Whiteley.
